Variation in PPH Recommendations

Dr. Rohan D’Souza presents “One Patient, Multiple Care Pathways: Case for Standardization & Best Practices,” a systematic review comparing Canadian PPH clinical practice guidelines against the 2025 WHO-FIGO-ICM consolidated PPH guideline. Through a case-based clinical pathway, Dr. D’Souza walks through where Canadian and international recommendations diverge — including PPH risk factor criteria, anemia diagnosis and iron therapy thresholds, prophylactic oxytocin dosing, PPH diagnostic criteria, and first-response treatment — and closes with a call for a unified, Canada-specific framework built through “adolopment”: adopting strong global evidence, adapting it to Canadian context, and developing new guidance only where evidence gaps remain.
